Over recent decades many have watched the rise of the European Union through its various stages (EFTA, EEC etc) and wondered. . . .
Is the European Union the Beast foretold in Revelation 13 or is it just the plaything of arrogant politicians; is it, as Mark Steyn suggested, "a) Europe is a smugly irritating but irrelevant backwater; or b) Europe is a smugly irritating but irrelevant backwater where the whole powder keg's about to go up. For what it's worth, I incline to the latter position."
Many prophecy watchers ask, or have asked . . . . .
Are the ten nation members the ten horns?
Is Rome the woman on the scarlet beast of Revelation 17 ?
Is the mark of the beast (666) an RFID microchip which all will be required to have implanted?
Even . . . . .
Is Xavier Solana the antichrist ?
Others have looked accusingly at the Vatican and the Pope.
While we are worrying about these questions, a much clearer candidate has been establishing itself.
Walid Shoebat and Mohammed Altaf point out the other contender in their book, "This is our Eden, This is our end". This book is no longer available as both authors have published new, revised books, but the table below should provide an introduction to the possibilities.

commonly suggested.

mark - number is possibly a assumption made in translation.
Translations vary on the number.
666, 616, 646 or
665. What if John’s manuscript included a representation of what John saw. If he saw Arabic and copied it it the characters read “Bism Allah”; “in the name of Allah”. This is used extensively in Islam on documents and on headbands of Islamic terrorists and fanatics. (See below) |

The Mark of the Beast
The following illustrations from Simon Altaf's book demonstrate the contention that John recorded the symbols he saw revealed, rather than writing down Greek characters. This means that the "mark" referred to is the Arabic phrase, "In the Name of Allah", not the number 666. The left hand illustration is from the oldest surviving manuscript of Revelation. Notice the similarity to the swords symbol and the name of Allah (rotated 90 degrees) See Simon's book for a thorough discussion of this matter; and many others.
